Link to Form II - Class PageThe Form II yearIn Form II the children will study:- English - Grammar & punctuation, comprehension, factual & creative writing, poetry & reading (heard daily). Maths - Addition & subtraction with place value, multiplication tables (2x, 5x, 10x) and division, weighing & measuring, sequencing, patterns, 2D & 3D shapes & tessellations, money & problem solving. Science - The human body, plant life, forces, materials, electricity. History - The ancient Egyptians, the ancient Chinese & the ancient Greeks. The children also complete a project each term on a topic that interests them linking to the main subject. Geography - Simple mapping skills, reading signs / symbols & maps, the geography of China, the oceans & their inhabitants. The children also begin to encounter more specialist teachers for Art, P.E., Science and I.T. which will prepare them for when they move into the Prep School next year. We use the National curriculum within the school although each class aims to exceed these artificial limits. Form II tchildren sit the Key Stage 1 SATS exams in May. They will also have internal school exams in November and June, and regular, course unit tests for the different subjects. Homework is set three times a week to be handed in the next day. Reading homework is given every night. Reading is vitally important this year with all the material they will have to read for their SATS and internal examinations. Please encourage the children to read as much as possible outside of their school reading book. Autumn Term..........
English - Learning comprehension skills and how to pick out relevant facts that relate to questions asked, developing creative story writing skills and understanding the different elements that make up a story. Looking at nouns and adjectives and how they fit into our work as well as some simple rhyming poetry. Maths - Place value with addition and subtraction, problem solving, 2x and 10x tables, practical money work (parents can help by getting children to buy items in shops, sort out the coins and the change), measuring with a ruler and learning about centimetres and metres. Also oral and written problem solving skills. 2D & 3D shapes. Science – Ourselves & other animals, living things & their habitats, electricity, forces and materials. This will be taught by both practical and class based tasks. ICT – Using paint programs to create pictures, communicating information using word processing packages, computer programming and using databases. History - All about Ancient Egypt. Geography - Local geography and mapping skills. Scripture - Joseph and his coat of many colours, The Christmas story. Art and Design - The children will experience a variety of media in their art studies with Mrs. Dines. Egyptian tomb painting and aspects of figurative drawing - with attention to the human profile - will be explored. Clay willl enable the children to form a number of "Egyptian" artefacts.
