Starfish Malawi

Heathcote School, Danbury, Christian Davies presents a cheque for £270 as a donation for the bulbs.

This Autumn some of our children have participated in the ‘Starfish Malawi Project'. They received a pot, potting compost and a hyacinth bulb which Form II potted during a science lesson on plants. Thanks to their efforts we have been able to raise £270. In December the children took their plants home as a Christmas present tagged with Friends of Malawi colours.

The project originates from a boy who found thousands of starfish washed up on the sand. As he began to throw them back his father asked how he thought he could make a difference. As he threw the next one back he replied " made a difference to that one; made difference to that one too".

The £5 donation made will feed a child in Malawi for a year. Starfish Malawi wants to encourage, with the funds raised, the creation of school farms which would provide food for all of the children in the chosen schools.
