Club - Gardening Club
|
The Gardening club is aimed at encouraging children to find out how vegetables grow, what they originate from and what materials are needed to facilitate the growing of them. It also encourages children to take on the responsibility of looking after the plant (weeding and watering them regularly) and helping out other members of the club too with their plant care. This term we have started growing tomatoes, dwarf peas and dwarf beans and will soon be sowing some lettuce and radishes too. Any plants not ready for harvesting by the end of term will go home for the children to enjoy the fruits of their labour during the summer holidays!
The Gardening Club meets every Friday lunchtime initally in Mrs Carn's classroom (Room 3).
Check this page regularly for competion updates, requests for materials and the weekly gardening challenge!

Garden Container Competition
Part 1 - Design a garden container using recycled objects and decorate it in an imaginative way. The opening for the plant must be at least 20cm in diameter and of course be safe to put hands into. Some ideas to think about using might be a watering can, wellie boots, a tyre etc. Remember that these containers may be flexible and so you may need to think carefully about what you decorate it with as some paints may crack (the decorative materials do not have to be recycled!). You can build something from scratch as long as the materials used are recycled - why not combine two items together to make something really unusual?!!
Part 2 - Use your CDT skillls to design a self-watering system to be used with your container. Again all materials should ideally be recycled but not your inner creative genius that is going to come up with a fantastic design!
This competion will close on Friday 6th June (1st Friday after half term). Please bring your entries on this day to be judged. There will be two prizes of cinema vouchers, one for each part of the competition.
Gardening Challenge - Which green vegetable likes to grow up canes or walls and whose name implies that it likes to move fast? (Correct answers will earn you a star).
