Playgrounds are very special places where much education and learning of life skills is gained. Here, through role play, interaction and other games the children find out about life and their place in the school community. They begin to understand 'pecking order' and who is biggest/strongest today and that this situation may well change continuously in the coming days, months and years. Playground games, many of which have come down to us from Victorian days, are still alive and re-appear seasonally as the children learn them from the many sources open to them. Hopscotch, French skipping, conkers, mothers and babies all take their turn throughout the year as well as some of the age old songs and chants; each replaced as the next gains favour. |
