Chelmsford Schools Swimming Gala

Mid Essex Primary Schools Annual ASA Gala

Saturday June 6th 2009

In a tough small school’s section the team were looking forward to putting on a good display on the night and retaining the winners cup awarded to us last year.

Mrs Collins, Mrs Rae and Mr Gladwin were very impressed with both individual and relay performances. Eventually we achieved second place, beating our local rivals, Maldon Court but being pipped  to first place by Widford Lodge.

Well done to the whole team.

Brentwood School Six- a-Side Football Tournament. 13TH March 2009

On a lovely Friday afternoon our team consisting of Charlie B, Alex M, George O, Alex G, Daniel W and Alex C. travelled  to Brentwood in high spirits. We knew that all schools invited to compete in this competition were going to be quality teams and we were not to be disappointed. Our group selection of schools included Brentwood, Ursuline, St. Johns, St. Michaels and Woodlands, with  only Woodlands being a similar size school to ours it was going to be a tough afternoon. We certainly had our work cut out and knew that we would need to be at our very best. Our first match was against Woodlands and  the boys played superbly, scoring two terrific goals and running out 2-0 victors. This gave us great confidence going into the remaining matches but unfortunately we were unable to match the strength of the larger schools and lost the next four games. However, regardless of these results I was extremely pleased with the attitude of all team members. We frequently changed players  positions as well as tactics and the boys never stopped believing in themselves. It was a great afternoon of football and I was very proud of the way in which the boys conducted themselves throughout the afternoon. Well done lads.

 Friday 27th February - Netball Heathcote V St.John's Danbury

Our year 5 and 6 girls achieved a fantastic 7 – 2 win at netball against St. John’s School, Danbury on Friday 27th February.  It was a wonderfully sunny afternoon.  Francesca did a marvellous job in her position as centre, dashing about the court, doing amazingly high leaps to intercept the ball.  Alexandra our team captain and goal attack popped the goals in one after the other.  Zowie impressed us with her agility and Rosie – using her height, made a brilliant goal keeper.  Olivia has recently changed positions and is currently a very fine goal defender.  Sophie, Stephanie and Tayler also played very well.  I am very proud of the girls especially as we played with three year 5 girls whereas St. John’s played a full team of year 6 pupils.

Well done team!!

I am also very impressed by the way that our older girls are keen to help advise and assist in my lunch time training of the younger year 4 girls who have two netball rallies coming up soon – it is lovely to see the team spirit.

Wednesday 26th February 2009 - 5 a-side football tournament

At the annual ISA regional 5- A-Side competition held  on Wednesday 25th Feb at Stoke College our boys were fired up for a day of hard fought matches. Upon arrival we found out our opponents and planned our tactics accordingly. There were three matches in the group stage of the competition, of which, we drew two and won one. A very pleasing set of results even though we new in our hearts that we shiould have won all three games with the amount of chances created. Nervertheless, this was enough to take us through to the final stages of the competion where we were eventually beaten 3-0 by St. Nicholas School. I was extremely proud of the team, they had given their all and it was a fantastic achievement to have reached the quarter final stage of the competion. Our team members were Charlie B, Max M, Alex G, Will K (captain), William C and Ben B. Our player of the  tournament was Max M. Well done to the whole team.

Friday 10th October - Cross Country at Gresham Prep School

On the 10th of October at 7am, eight excited, but tired children set off for Gresham's Prep School in Norfolk.  They were off to a cross-country race but before we reached the A12 one of the team members started to feel unwell. We stopped, rearranged the seating and set off again.  This was going to be a long journey, the children had been specially selected from a large cross-country squad, and we had to arrive on time, ready to run the long gruelling course.

We arrived at 10am, perfect, the children were very bubbly and raring to go, we made our way to the briefing area, and once the children had been given their race numbers we were led to the marshalling area - ‘No. 11'. The eight runners settled down then they were split into their age groups to walk the course with the other 486 competitors.  Mrs. Brown walked with the 3 and 4's and I walked with 5 and 6's. We went past the astro pitches towards the hedges, turning right by the rugby pitches and into the woods. Then out into the field, back into the woods, towards the football pitch and up towards the finish; a long, difficult course.

The years 3and 4 were off, 118 runners, I saw Arthur lead the field into the woods. I waited and waited, he came out third but looking strong.  Not far behind was the rest of his team Alex C, Thomas, and Oliver.  What a super race; the boys were tired but extremely proud of their results. Arthur 3rd.  Alex C 11th , Thomas 12th and Oliver 13th. 100 boys started this race

The next race was the boys 5 and 6 race, this course was about 400 metres longer. Alex G and Ben made their way to the start line along with another 124 boys.  Both boys ran a super race finishing 14th and 17th respectively.

Francesca and Alexandra were in the last race; all the boys were waiting at the start line to cheer them on.  The girls ran a fantastic race against 118 other girls; they finished in 12th and 33rd place

After an excellent prizing giving, with lots of cheering, the ten of us plus Arthur's medal made our way back to Danbury.

It was a pleasure to watch these children represent their school, they all gave 110% in their respective races, and they were super ambassadors for Heathcote School.

Football and Netball Fixture v New Hall School Thursday 2nd October

A tough fixture for the beginning of the season but both boys and girls were in good spirit leading up to this fixture. The Yr V and V1 football team went two goals down early on in the game and we lost our shape for a short period. We went on to defend well for the rest of the half against a strong wind and also playing up the slope of the pitch. Before the half time whistle we had conceeded a third goal and our heads were dropping. The half time talk gave us a chance to make some changes and to improve our self confidence . The second half was more evenly balanced with chances at both ends. New Hall hit us with two more well taken goals before Ben Barlow's great challenge to win the ball in the centre of the field which allowed him to find Will Kirby who scored a fine goal from the edge of the penalty box. Final Score New Hall 5 Heathcote 1. Well played to all ten boys who took part in the game, we will take forward many positives derived from this game into the rest of our season.

The girls netball team tried extremely hard. This was our first fixture and the first time many of the girls especially our younger ones had ever played in a proper match scenario. They gave it their best and the determination showed in their faces. Francesca Coughlan held a strong centre position aiding both the defence and the attack, Alexandra Rae worked extremely hard and all the girls pulled together. The New Hall team consisted of all year 6 girls who were extremely tall, whereas we had a mixture of year groups. The score was 6-0 to New Hall. I think our girls will take away a few tips from this match to assist them in the future. Any girls (or boys) interested in coming along to the netball club - it is held from 3.30pm until 4.15pm on a Tuesday evening.
