Academic Results

At Heathcote, we conduct termly assessments in Reading, Writing, Maths and Science.  These are marked according to a growth mindset model using a scale of beginning, working towards, secure, exceeding and mastered.  These are assessed against National Curriculum objectives.

Reading and Maths are also assessed by standardised tests to provide standardised scores and also reading and maths ages.

An age standardised score converts a pupil’s raw score to a standardised score which takes into account the pupil’s age in years and months and gives an indication of how the pupil is performing relative to a national sample of pupils of the same age. The average score is 100.

Reading and Maths ages are expressed with reference to an average age at which a comparable ability is found.

25% of Heathcote Pupils at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 score 125+ – well above average in their reading assessments.  48% score above average with 94% pupils meeting at least the average score of 100.

77% of Heathcote Pupils at both Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 have a reading age well above their chronological age.  94% read above their chronological age with 95% pupils meeting at least their chronological age.

38% of Heathcote Pupils at both KS1 and KS2 score 125+ – well above average in their maths assessments.  61% score above average with 97% pupils meeting at least the average score of 100.

64% of Heathcote Pupils at both KS1 and KS2 have a maths age well above their chronological age.  95% are above their chronological age with 95% pupils meeting at least their chronological age.

We use this data to track pupils’ progress each term and to identify strengths and weaknesses.  Pupils who we feel are not making significant enough progress are monitored and then, when necessary, interventions are put in place to address gaps in their learning.  Able and talented children are also identified and appropriate interventions are put in place to extend their learning further (Academic Extension Programme).

Early Years

All Early Years settings are assessed by their local authority and schools are regularly moderated.  Heathcote School has been moderated in 2017, 2018 and 2019 and all results were confirmed.

98% of Heathcote EYFS pupils meet the expected outcome for their age, including pupils with English as their second language, compared to the Essex County average of 70%.

In addition, 56% of Heathcote EYFS pupils exceed the expected outcomes for their age.
