If your child is showing 11+ potential – choose Heathcote!

It can be a tricky time for parents when their little ones show academic prowess and we realise that they need to be stretched and offered challenges to enable them to thrive in their learning. We question if we are doing the right thing- should they be ‘pushed’, should we leave them to develop at their own rate and are they happy in their learning? At Heathcote Prep, we are always aware of meeting the needs of the individual. We ensure that every child is allowed to follow their own path to success; they are offered a plethora of opportunities to enable them to grow and know that they can tackle the route to their dreams. What parent wouldn’t want confident, capable children? Well of course, so do we!

Our recent academic assessments show that 87% of our pupils attain at or above national age-related standards for reading and 80% above for Maths. Our recent 11+ pass rates for local grammar secondary schools, including KEGS and CCHS in Chelmsford, show we achieve an average pass rate of 73% of these pupils (as an average across several years). We are immensely proud of our Heathcote children!

How do we achieve this?

Hard work, energy, drive, enthusiasm? Yes! Additionally, having experienced subject specialist teachers (comprising a Pearson national ‘outstanding new teacher of the year’ award finalist) who streamline our curriculum (including weekly 11+ lessons from year 3) to ensure it is accessible and enjoyable so our pupils retain learning and love their lessons. We engage with a comprehensive program leading to success for the end of KS2 entrance examinations including grammars and prestigious independent secondary schools.

We develop our children’s potential over time; whether this be identifying and supporting scholarship applications or prepping for CSSE 11+ exams. We hold Easter and Summer booster days to give the children practice, tips and exam techniques, and Form 4 and 5 pupils have access to before and after school clubs every week designed to challenge them and prepare them for the entrance examinations. We have Saturday Form 5 practice exam mornings across the summer term (before the exam in September) to familiarise our pupils with test formats but also timing practice and being in a longer exam with other children around them. We analyse their work and results to feed into the next stages of their lessons to close gaps in learning and ensure they make accelerated progress.

This preparation program covers CSSE, CCHS, ISEB and AAT preparation and we are a test centre for independent school entrance examinations too so they can sit the tests in a comfortable, familiar environment where they feel confident.
