What an absolutely incredible week we have had! We proudly hosted our third annual Careers Week in March, an event that continues to inspire, educate and excite our pupils about the endless possibilities that lie ahead. With 15 amazing visitors from a wide range of professions, the week was packed with inspirational speeches, powerful presentations, and hands-on role-playing experiences to help our pupils explore future career paths.
This year we welcomed an author, an illustrator, a policeman (with his patrol car!), a financial fraud investigator, two vets (who came armed soft toys ready for bandaging), a chiropractor, a nurse practitioner, a financial researcher, a ships’ pilot (for those unfamiliar, this is a captain who navigates large vessels safely through complex waterways), a solicitor, a scientific researcher, a professional cyclist, a First Bus marketing executive, and a tractor plant manager. What a line-up!
Amongst the many standout moments, a few deserve special mention. The pupils were amazed to learn about groundbreaking scientific research that enables dehydrated blood to be easily transferable to war zones, providing critical support to service personnel. Another unforgettable moment was witnessing our youngest nursery pupils in complete awe as they saw bikes that had been ridden in the Tour de France!
And, of course, no Careers Week would be complete without the countless intriguing (and sometimes very funny) questions from our pupils. One of our favourites? “Would the Titanic have sunk if our brilliant ships’ pilot had been at the helm?”—to which the answer was a resounding “No!”
We also welcomed back ‘Little City,’ transforming our school into ‘Heathcote City of Career Choices.’ From a hairdressing salon to a doctor’s surgery, our pupils immersed themselves in hands-on role play, dressing up and using props to bring their dream careers to life. The laughter, engagement and creativity on display were simply wonderful to witness.
A massive thank you to all our guest speakers and volunteers who generously shared their time and stories with our pupils. Your insights and stories have sparked new ambitions and broadened horizons.
